As a life long athlete and physician, I feel confident in my ability to train and prepare appropriately for triathlon races and to meet my goals. Despite this fact, I continue to benefit greatly from the guidance and coaching skill of Eric Gauthier. I am 52 years old, a former collegiate gymnast, and triathlete for the last 12 years.
In 2009, I committed to cycle 1000 miles over 10 days to raise money for charity and knew I would need help to ensure my success. Eric Gauthier had been an acquaintance of mine at that time and knowing his excellent reputation, I decided to hire him as my coach for this challenging event.
Immediately, I knew this was a good decision. At our first meeting, Eric described the strategy of the training workouts and emphasized the key importance of nutrition and recovery. As my training progressed, Eric was very attentive to my development and always available for questions and concerns.
In August of 2010, I completed my ride from Chicago to Colorado Springs without any difficulty in 10 days – 9 days of riding and 1 rest day in the middle. Despite blistering heat in the innumerable hills of Iowa, closed roads, detours, and an extra 20 miles on one of the longest scheduled days, I never felt truly bad on the bike. I never had a nutritional bonk or gastrointestinal distress. I recovered well each day. After reaching Colorado Springs, I celebrated and rested for three days and then hiked the Barr Trail 13 miles and 7000 vertical feet to the 14,000+ foot summit of Pikes Peak. No problem.
I have no doubt my success was due to the excllent training I received from Eric and my dedication to his plan. As I presently participate in century rides, triathlons, and other cycling events, I continue to enjoy the benefits of Eric’s coaching. Many of my cycling/triathlon colleagues of a variety of ages and skills are coached by Eric for their events, including Ironman distance tri’s, and they too have had excellent results. I endorse Eric Gauthier’s skill to coach and train athletes of all ages and abilities with my highest recommendation.
